VA Home Loan Eligibiity
VA Benefit Determined by numbers 2, 6, 90 and 181
To be eligible for a VA loan, a veteran or active duty military member must meet at least one of the following:
2 Served at least 2 years on active duty
6 Served at least 6 years in the Reserves or National Guard
90 Served at least 90 days of wartime duty called up under U.S.C. Title 10 with honorable discharge
181 Served at least 181 days of peacetime duty called up under U.S.C. Title 10 with honorable discharge
Those with service-connected disabilities may be considered even if the duration of service requirement is not met. Certain surviving spouses widowed by military members who died while in service or from service-connected disabilities may also have VA home loan benefits. Finally, POWs held in captivity for at least 90 days and spouses of MIAs or POWs may also be eligible.
